St. Petersburg and its three nearest cities side by side: 2025 tax rates, zoned high schools and grades, Zillow home values, Census income and commute.
Last checked Oct. 11, 2026. Sources: the Pinellas County Tax Collector 2025 millage table, the Florida Department of Revenue, Pinellas County Schools’ School Zone Locator, the Florida Department of Education’s 2026 school grades, the Zillow Home Value Index (Zillow Research), the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2020-2024 and each city’s website.
These are the three cities nearest to St. Petersburg in our town data: Gulfport, about 4 miles away, South Pasadena, about 6 miles, and St. Pete Beach, about 7 miles, all on Boca Ciega Bay or the Gulf beaches to the west and south. Lealman and West Lealman are closer but are unincorporated communities, not cities, so they have no city tax rate or city services to compare.
All four are in Pinellas County, so they share the county’s tax rates and Pinellas County Schools. What differs is the city tax rate, a transit levy and who provides police, fire and trash service.

Homestead exemption
Florida’s homestead exemption is set by the state, so it is the same in all four cities. The Florida Department of Revenue says it can cut a permanent residence’s taxable value by as much as $50,000 and qualifies the home for the Save Our Homes cap on yearly assessment increases. You apply to the Pinellas County Property Appraiser by March 1.
Schools
All four cities are in Pinellas County Schools. We checked addresses in each city in the district’s School Zone Locator on Oct. 11 for the 2026-27 school year. Grades and the share of possible points each school earned are from the Florida Department of Education’s 2026 school grades; each name links to the school’s state report card.

Zones are set by address, so check yours. The district’s Planning for Progress rezoning proposal for 2027-28 goes to a School Board vote on Tuesday, Oct. 13. More in our schools guide.
