Where it is

By the addresses on the city’s parcel map, the association’s area runs from Central Avenue north to about 9th Avenue North, and from about 19th Street North west to 34th Street North (U.S. 19). 5th Avenue North and 1st Avenue North cross it east to west, and 28th Street North and 31st Street North run north to south.

The association says Kenwood’s first developer, Charles Hall of Philadelphia, bought 160 acres of avocado groves here in 1912, that most of its homes were built between the 1920s and the 1950s and that 170 houses were moved here from other neighborhoods in the 1930s. The city’s historic preservation map shows the Kenwood National Register district covering most of the area. The association says review and permits for homes inside one of the city’s local historic districts go through the city’s Planning and Historic Preservation Commission.
