How admission works
Mangrove Bay’s Health and Wellness Leadership Academy is a south county magnet in the district’s application program. According to the school’s admission pages:
- Families apply online through their Focus parent account. For 2027-28, the initial window is Jan. 5-15, 2027, and offers are accepted Feb. 10-19, 2027.
- If eligible applicants outnumber the seats, up to 145 per grade, a computer draws them at random.
- Priorities, such as for siblings and the children of active-duty military families, apply only in the initial application and acceptance periods. The district’s magnet guide gives feeder priority to students from Lakewood Elementary.
The district’s South County Fair for magnet and fundamental programs is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Gibbs High.
Programs
The school’s website describes a project-based curriculum with required wellness courses, sixth-grade teacher teams, a capstone service-learning project and high school credit courses. It lists volleyball and cross country in the fall, basketball and soccer in the winter, and flag football and track and field in the spring.
The district’s Planning for Progress recommendations, up for a School Board vote at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, do not name Mangrove Bay.
